We’ll share the story of Yuzuki, who ventured from Kyoto’s Nishijin House to spend a week in February 2024 at KORYODAE2 HOUSE in Korea. Yuzuki will tell us about her experiences in Japan, her adventures in Korea, and the allure of BORDERLESS TRAVEL.

Embracing English: Yuzuki’s Journey at Nishijin House

Yuzuki’s time at Nishijin House brought about a significant shift in her views on English and international interactions. She explained that her decision to move there stemmed from a desire to conquer her fear of English and engage with people from different countries.

Although she initially enjoyed English, the stress of exam preparation diminished her passion, and she struggled to speak fluently. Yuzuki realized the limitations of speaking only Japanese and saw the potential of English to connect her with diverse cultures and ideas.

Driven by the need to immerse herself in an English-speaking environment, Yuzuki chose to live at Borderless House.

───Did you consider any other share houses before choosing Borderless House?

Yuzuki: Actually, I didn’t look anywhere else. I decided to move into Borderless House the same day I visited. The environment offered the perfect mix of English practice and social opportunities, all within my budget. Plus, I was planning to study abroad the next year, so the idea of practicing for that experience while still in Japan seemed perfect to me.

─── Could you tell us about your housemates at Nishijin House?

Yuzuki: On my first day, one of my housemates surprised me by inviting me to a party right away, which was unexpected (laughs)! Initially, I was nervous, but everyone was so welcoming that I quickly warmed up to them.

I formed a close bond with a foreign housemate, and we often went out together. I also shared unique insights with a working professional housemate. Whenever we faced challenges or disagreements in our shared living situation, we were able to discuss and resolve them during our regular house meetings at Nishijin House. It truly was a great community to be a part of.

───Have you noticed any personal growth or changes during your time at Nishijin House?

Yuzuki: Absolutely! Initially, spending time with people from other countries was out of the ordinary for me, and it came with a bit of tension. But after living in Borderless House, I’ve become comfortable engaging freely in conversations without considering race or nationality.

It’s been incredibly enriching to learn from the diverse perspectives and strong convictions of my housemates.

Embarking on My First Solo International Journey with BORDERLESS TRAVEL!

───How did you become interested in BORDERLESS TRAVEL?

Yuzuki: I’ve known about the program since I moved in and always wanted to try it. I felt staying at a Borderless House abroad would be more enriching than solo hotel stays, allowing me to learn the language and engage with locals.

It seemed like a perfect way to prepare for my first solo international trip before studying in Canada this summer.

─── Your first experience living abroad was with BORDERLESS TRAVEL. Did you encounter any challenges during your travel?

Yuzuki: It was quite nerve-wracking, especially going through immigration for the first time and figuring out train transfers on my own. But luckily, everything went smoothly without any major problems!

Yuzuki: When I got to Koryodaes House, I was greeted by Robin, the staff member I had been communicating with by email. Meeting him in person really helped me settle in. He showed me around and shared some local tips and places to visit.

───Traveling abroad for the first time can be quite daunting. Did you notice any notable differences during your stay in the Borderless House in Korea compared to Japan?

Yuzuki: Definitely. For example, I had to separate organic waste from burnable trash, and in public restrooms, I couldn’t flush toilet paper but had to discard it in a bin.

Living in an environment close to the local lifestyle, unlike a hotel stay, made me more aware of these cultural differences. This is one of the unique advantages of BORDERLESS TRAVEL.

Language Learning, Cultural Exploration, and International Connections: Maximize the Benefits of Short-Term Stays!

───During your seven-day stay, did you make any specific efforts?

Yuzuki: I focused on being proactive in starting conversations with my housemates. It was my first time in a shared room overseas, and I quickly hit it off with my Italian roommate on the first day. She left for Tokyo the next day, so we couldn’t meet again, but we kept in touch through Instagram, sharing messages and updates about her trip.

Many of my housemates were interested in Japan, so we enjoyed mingling and conversing in Japanese, English, and Korean.

───Did you also converse in Korean during your stay?

Yuzuki: Yes, I’ve been a fan of Korean dramas, which helped me learn the language pretty naturally. I actually speak Korean better than English! While there, Robin invited me to a Language Exchange event, where I got to meet and chat with people outside the house, making my stay even more enjoyable.

───It sounds like you made the most of your 7-day stay! What other activities did you do?

Yuzuki: I visited historic sites and museums that caught my interest. I dressed in traditional Korean clothes and explored Gyeongbokgung Palace, and I also went to the DMZ near the North Korean border.

I participated in a tour aimed at Japanese visitors and connected well with other participants. We discussed how the conflict known in Japan as the “Korean War” is referred to in Korea. Learning about Korean perspectives on their history was incredibly insightful.

─── Reflecting on your 7-day stay, could you highlight what makes BORDERLESS TRAVEL so special?

Yuzuki: Definitely! The program offers deep cultural experiences and meaningful interactions with local housemates that you just can’t get from staying in a hotel. It allows you to live much closer to how the locals do, which is unique to BORDERLESS TRAVEL.

I think even short stays can provide significant learning and insights. I recommend starting with a stay in a domestic Borderless House to get a feel for international exchange before trying out the program.

Event | Celebrate Lunar New year with BORDERLESS HOUSE housemate!

Lunar New Year is a traditional festival calculated according to the lunar calendar and is one of Taiwan’s important holidays. During the Lunar New Year holiday period, people typically return to their hometowns to reunite with family and friends, celebrating the arrival of the new year together. Customs and traditions vary from region to region. In Taiwan, for example: on New Year’s Eve, families perform rituals to honor ancestors, gather for dinner, and stay up late into the night; on the first day of the new year, people pay a New Year’s visit; the second day is for married daughters going back to their own family to visit parents, relatives, and close friends; the third day is for going to bed earlier; the fourth day involves rituals to welcome deities and ensure good fortune for the coming year; and the fifth day marks the resumption of business activities after the holiday

This year, our Taiwanese housemate, James, brought our Japanese housemate, Azusa, back to his hometown (Kaohsiung and Tainan) to celebrate the New Year. During their visit, he introduced Azusa to Taiwanese customs, allowing her to immerse herself more deeply in the atmosphere of the Spring Festival. Let’s follow in their footsteps and explore the sights of southern Taiwan during the Lunar New Year!

Let’s start the trip from Kaohsiung! Dome of Light, Cijin, Cijin Lighthouse, and The Pier-2 Art Center✨


Our first stop was the renowned landmark at Kaohsiung’s Formosa Boulevard Station—the Dome of Light. The dome tells the story of human life in four chronologically arranged themes: Water: The Womb of Life; Earth: Prosperity and Growth; Light: The Creative Spirit; and Fire: Destruction and Rebirth, with an overall message of love and tolerance. Whenever new friends visit Kaohsiung for the first time, I always take them here.



Our next destination is Cijin, where we hopped on bicycles and rode along the seaside bike path, soaking in the coastal scenery. I noticed Azusa’s excitement as she witnessed the sunset by the beach. It seemed that in Taiwan, there were fewer opportunities for her to appreciate such beautiful landscapes while cycling, which made the experience even more special for her.



Afterwards, we visited the Cijin Lighthouse to enjoy the night scenery. This location offers a fantastic view, overlooking Cijin Beach and Kaohsiung. Surprisingly, it’s not widely known, so there weren’t many people around. We lingered here for quite some time, relishing the tranquil moments in the peaceful ambiance.


Finally, we took a boat back to Kaohsiung and strolled along the Pier-2 Art Center. Along the way, we encountered numerous art installations and food trucks. I explained to Azusa that Kaohsiung is a port city, historically centered around import-export trade, hence the frequent presence of cargo ships. The buildings at Pier-2 used to be warehouses for storing goods but have since been transformed into an artistic hub.

Fo Guang Shan, lion and dragon dances, and head to Tainan!



The next day, we visited Fo Guang Shan, a Buddhist monastery, to experience the spring festivities and offer prayers. As Taiwan’s largest Buddhist monastery, it attracts many visitors every year who come to pray for peace and prosperity. Besides the prayers, the monastery also offers a variety of unexpected vegetarian dishes, such as vegetarian chicken made from soybeans and mushrooms, as well as international cuisine. Along the way, we encountered the traditional lion and dragon dances, and lively performances that celebrate the arrival of the new year and add to the festive atmosphere.


Afterward, we headed to Tainan, arriving after dark. We visited the renowned souvenir shop, Hayashi Department Store, which opened during the Japanese colonial period in 1932, becoming the second department store in Taiwan and the first in southern Taiwan. After undergoing renovation, it reopened in 2014 as a “cultural and creative department store,” while still preserving many early artifacts. Here, you can find Taiwan’s famous specialties such as nougat, tea leaves, pineapple cakes, as well as clothing and unique cultural and creative products from the early Japanese colonial period. The packaging of these items is exquisitely cute, blending traditional Japanese patterns with local Taiwanese styles, making it worth a visit for everyone!

Experience the Lantern Festival atmosphere and eat delicious Tainan food.



During the Spring Festival, as it approaches the Lantern Festival (the fifteenth day of the Chinese New Year), lantern festivals are held as part of the celebrations. This year is no exception. Not only are the streets of Tainan adorned with lanterns, but temples also display characteristic lanterns, creating a festive atmosphere. Moreover, there are some artistic paintings or small shops hidden along the streets, often attracting passersby to stop and explore.




If I were to describe Kaohsiung, I would say it’s a bustling port city that never sleeps, becoming more beautiful as the night deepens. On the other hand, Tainan can be described as a capital of food. Traditional breakfast in Tainan is seafood congee, reflecting the city’s early reliance on fishing for livelihoods, necessitating a hearty meal to sustain energy for work. Another famous delicacy is Tainan beef soup, which I highly recommend trying if you have the chance. The broth is rich and smooth, and the beef is tender yet flavorful! Additionally, prices in Tainan are relatively lower than in Taipei, so I believe you can enjoy your meals with great satisfaction there.

When it comes to must-try desserts in Tainan, we can’t forget about tofu pudding (douhua) and fruit shaved ice. During the summer, you can enjoy mango shaved ice, which foreigners highly favor, while in the winter, you can enjoy seasonal strawberry shaved ice.

The above is the three-day, two-night trip back to my hometown with Azusa. If there’s a chance, I’d also like to experience the local New Year culture in Japan:)!

イベント | ハウスメイトと一緒に、地元で旧正月の風習を体験！

みなさん「春節」をご存じですか？太陰暦にもとづき、「中国新年」や「旧正月」として広く親しまれるこのお祭りは、台湾では特に重要な祝日の一つとされています。この時期になると多くの人々が地元へと戻り、家族や友人との再会を楽しみながら新たな年の訪れをともに祝います。しかし一口に春節といっても、その風習や伝統は地域によってさまざま。中でも台湾の春節は、独自の魅力に溢れています！例えば、大晦日には家族が一堂に会し、先祖に感謝と敬意を伝える儀式を行います。その後、家族団らんの夕食を楽しみ、深夜まで語り合います。新年初日に行われるのが挨拶回り。親戚や友人の家を訪れ、新たな年の幸運を祈ります。二日目には既婚女性が自身の実家を訪れ、家族や親戚、そして親しい友人との絆を深めます。三日目は休息をとるため早めに就寝する日とされ、四日目には、神様をお迎えして一年の幸運を願うための儀式が行われます。そして五日目には仕事始めとなり、日常が戻ってきます。このように台湾の春節は、古くから伝わる伝統と現代の生活が融合する中で、家族の絆を深める貴重な時期となっています。

今年、ボーダレスハウスの台湾人ハウスメイト、ジェームスが、日本人ハウスメイトのあずさを特別な旧正月体験に招待！彼の地元である高雄や台南で、一緒に春節をお祝いしました。滞在を通じて、あずさはジェームスの案内で台湾独自の風習を体験し、春節の魅力に存分に触れることができたようです！彼らの旅を追いかけながら、旧正月の南台湾がどのように彩られるのか、一緒に見ていきましょう！

高雄から旅行を始めましょう！光のドーム、旗津、旗津灯台、駁二芸術特区✨


旧正月の冒険は、高雄での壮大な体験ととともにスタートしました！最初の目的地は、地元で話題の美麗島駅にある「光のドーム」。人生の物語を「水：生命の源」「地：繁栄と成長」「光：創造の精神」「火：破壊と再生」という4つのテーマで描いたこのアート作品は、訪れる人々に愛と寛容のメッセージを伝えます。高雄に来てくれた友人をここへ連れてきて、友情と思い出を刻んだ写真を撮るのが、私の定番コースです。



次なる目的地は、旗津の海岸線。私たちは自転車をレンタルし、海辺のバイクロードを颯爽と走り抜けました！潮の香りと海風が心地よく、夕日を背に輝くあずさの表情が印象的でした。サイクリングしながらこんなにも美しい景色を堪能するのは、彼女にとって珍しい体験だったようです。彼女の喜んでいる様子は、その笑顔からひしひしと伝わってきました。台湾の大自然に包まれながら、特別な一日の終わりを迎えるこのひととき。まさに旅の醍醐味です。



その後私たちは、夜景を楽しむために旗津灯台を訪れました。この場所には、旗津ビーチと高雄の夜景を一望できる素晴らしい眺めが広がっています。意外な穴場スポットのため、あまり人も多くありません。私たちはここで長い時間を過ごし、心穏やかなひとときを味わいました。


最後に船で高雄に戻り、駁二芸術特区を散策しました。私はあずさに、「高雄は歴史的に貿易が栄えた港町のため、頻繁に貨物船が行き来している」ことを説明しました。散策の道中には、たくさんのアートインスタレーションやフードトラックを見かけました。このように、元々は貿易商品を保管する倉庫だった駁二の建物が、今では芸術の中心地に変身しています。

佛光山、獅子舞や龍舞、そして台南に向かいましょう！



翌日、私たちは春の訪れを感じさせる特別な場所、佛光山へ足を運びました。台湾最大の仏教寺院であるこの聖地は、平和と繁栄を願う人々で年中賑わっています。しかし佛光山は、単に祈りを捧げるだけの場所ではありません。この寺院では、例えば大豆やキノコから作られたベジタリアンチキンなど、思いがけないほど多様なベジタリアン料理と世界各国の料理を楽しむことができます。また、新年の喜びを表現する獅子舞や龍舞が、そのいきいきとしたパフォーマンスで、祭りの雰囲気をより一層高めてくれました。


夜になると、私たちは台南へと向かいました。ここでは、日本統治時代の1932年に、台湾全土で2番目、南台湾で最初に開業した歴史あるデパート、林百貨を訪れました。リニューアルオープンした現在も、その歴史的価値を保ちつつ、「文化的でクリエイティブなデパート」として新たな魅力を発信し続けています。台湾の名産品である、ヌガーや茶葉、パイナップルケーキに始まり、衣類や旧日本統治時代の文化を反映したユニークな工芸品など、あらゆる商品が勢ぞろい！どの商品も、伝統的な和柄と地元台湾のスタイルが見事に融合した、愛らしいパッケージで販売されています。そのユニークな商品と文化的背景から、訪れる全ての人に特別な体験を約束する林百貨。ぜひ足を運んでみてください！

元宵節の雰囲気を体験し、美味しい台南料理を食べましょう。



春節が元宵節（春節から数えて15日目の満月の日。日本の小正月にあたる）に近づくこの季節、提灯祭りに彩られた台南の街は、まるで光の絨毯を敷き詰めたよう。今年も街のいたる所で提灯が輝き、寺院では独自の提灯が展示され、どこもかしこも祝祭の雰囲気で満ち溢れています。また、街中にひっそりとたたずむアート作品や小さなお店を前に、散策者たちは足を止め、小さな冒険へと足を踏み出します。




先ほど紹介した高雄は、夜ごとにその美しさを増す活気あふれた港町のイメージがぴったり。一方「食の首都」と呼ばれる台南で、その味を楽しまない手はありませんよね！台南伝統の朝食といえば海鮮粥。その昔漁業が栄えた台南ならではの、働く地元の人たちを支えるハートフルな料理です。そして、台南牛肉湯は絶対に試してほしい一品。濃厚で滑らかなスープに、柔らかく風味豊かな牛肉が加わることで、絶妙な味わいを生み出しています。台北と比べると台南の物価はお手頃なので、豊かな食文化を心ゆくまで満喫できること請け合いです！

台南で絶対に試してほしいデザートとして、豆花とフルーツかき氷を見逃すわけにはいきません。夏に人気のマンゴーかき氷は、外国人旅行者からも愛される一品。一方で冬には、旬のストロベリーかき氷で、甘いひとときを楽しむことができます。

以上が、あずさと一緒に故郷台湾で過ごした、充実の2泊3日の旅行記録でした。もし機会があれば、私も日本ならではの新年の風習を体験してみたいです:)！新しい文化を体験し、お互いの国の素晴らしさを共有し合う旅は、これからも続いていくことでしょう…。

【国際交流シェアハウス×インターン？】参加した大学生にホンネの話、聞いてみた！

みなさん、こんにちは！
ボーダレスハウスです。

2月12日から3月末まで、6週間という期間の中で開催した今期の「BH CAMP」が無事閉幕しました！
BH CAMPは、国際交流シェアハウス「ボーダレスハウス」に住みながら、インターンシップでさまざまな活動に挑戦できる、大学生限定のプラン。
九州ルーテル学院大学では単位認定対象となり、毎年2回のペースで開催している、大学生に大注目のプログラムなんです。

今回も、全国から集まった10名の大学生が東京・関西にあるシェアハウスで生活しながら、ソーシャルビジネスに関する講座を受けたり、実践的なインターンシップに挑戦。
国際交流と社会課題、そして自分自身の将来など、数えきれないほどの学びに出会い、自己成長を遂げたようです。

 

このブログでは、今期のBH CAMPに参加したインターン生2人にインタビューをしてみました！
インターンを通してマーケティング企画に挑戦した大学2年生のみなみさんと、コミュニティ運営に挑戦した大学1年生のももさん。
おふたりがなぜBH CAMPに参加して、その後何を得たのか？

Q1. BH CAMPのインターンに参加した理由は？

みなみさん：

裁量持って自由に働ける、ベンチャー企業で働くことに憧れを抱いていたんです。就活を意識していろいろな企業について調べていたら、ボーダレス・ジャパンのHPにたどり着いて、すごく興味が湧きました。そこで私でも挑戦できそうなインターンがないか探したら、グループ企業のボーダレスハウスがBH CAMP生を募集していることを知ったんです。

大学生のうちに留学にも行きたいと思っていたので、外国人の方とシェアハウス生活ができるところにも魅力を感じ、日本にいながら留学体験ができるかもしれないと思って参加を決意しました。

ももさん：

私は、シェアハウスで暮らしながら英語に自然に触れていられる環境に心惹かれました。大学では基本的に英語で授業を受けるんですが、長期休暇の間はほとんど英語に触れる機会がなくなってしまうので、英語力をキープしたくて。

あとは、親元を離れて決まった期間生活ができるという点でも挑戦したいと思いました。これまでずっと実家暮らしの一人っ子なので、この機会に自立した生活への一歩を踏み出せるかなと思って…！

Q2. 「シェアハウスに住んでインターンに参加する」と伝えたときの、親御さんの反応は？

みなみさん：

元々一人暮らしをしていたこともあって、BH CAMPについては特に親には相談せず、入居の際の同意書を書いてもらうタイミングで「シェアハウスに住むことになったよ〜」と伝えたくらいでした。

費用も自分で工面したので、特に何か心配されるようなことはなく送り出してもらえましたね。

ももさん：

初めて親元を離れて生活することになるので、両親はちゃんと自炊したり栄養のある食事をとって暮らせるのか心配はしてくれましたが、最後には背中を押してくれました。

インターン期間中もシェアハウスでの様子の写真をたまに送ったりして、心配性の父も安心してくれていたと思います。

Q3. シェアハウス生活を始めたときの心境は？

みなみさん：

私が滞在した大阪弁天町ハウスは、入居者数が少なめの小規模シェアハウス。元々できあがっているハウスメイトのコミュニティに馴染めるのか、少しだけ不安はありましたが、ものの1週間くらいでリラックスして生活できるようになりました！

みんなで夜ご飯を食べた後、そのままリビングで映画やアニメを観て楽しんでいたら、いつの間にか仲良くなっていたんです。

ももさん：

私も最初は元々の関係性にうまく入っていけるのか、少し緊張していました。でも滞在先の板橋区役所前ハウスのみんなが、最初にウェルカムパーティを開いてくれて、気さくに話しかけてくれて。

シェアハウスのみんなが私を歓迎してくださっているんだなと安心しましたし、すぐに溶け込んでいけました。

Q4. シェアハウスでの使用言語は？

日本語を学びたい外国人ハウスメイトが多かったので、向こうは日本語で私に話しかけてくれ、私は反対に英語で返すというスタイルが定着していました。

正直スピーキングにはあまり自信はありませんでしたが、ハウスメイトも完璧ではない日本語で一生懸命に話しかけてくれて、その姿に刺激を受けてためらうことなく英語で話せるようになったと思います。

ももさん：

日本語と英語、同じくらいの割合で使用していたような気がします。

私も最初はうまく英語で自分の思いを伝えられなかったのですが、大学の友人から「きっとシェアハウスのみんなも、ももがリラックスして会話できる環境を作りたいと思っているはずだよ」とアドバイスしてくれて、少し気が楽になりました。

実際、ハウスメイトたちも国際交流や言語学習に興味があったり、経験があったりする方ばかりだったので、臆せずに英語で話せるようになりました。

Q5. シェアハウス生活で一番の思い出は？

みなみさん：

ハウスメイトに日本語を教えてあげたことが印象に残ってます！アニメ好きなハウスメイト数人が集まって、YOASOBIの『アイドル』を熱唱していることがあったのですが（笑）、その歌詞に出てくる「のらりくらり」という言葉の意味を聞かれて。

母国語だからこそ深く考えずに使っている言葉の意味をいざ聞かれ、さらに英語でその意味を説明するのが難しくて、でも私自身もすごく勉強になった瞬間でした。

ももさん：

みんなでハリーポッターの映画を観ながらあれこれ語り合ったのが思い出です。ハリーポッターはイギリスが舞台の映画なので、使用されている英語もイギリス訛り。アメリカ人・イタリア人のハウスメイトと、英語のイントネーションについて意見をシェアしあって楽しかったです。

そこから派生して、ヨーロッパの国で第二言語として英語をどんなふうに学ぶのかも教えてもらいました。小学校のときから授業を英語ですることもあって、映画やドラマで独学したんだよ〜と聞いたときには、日本の英語教育との差を大きく感じて興味深かったですね。

Q5. インターンではどんなことに取り組んだ？

みなみさん：

私はマーケティング企画に挑戦しました。「ボーダレスハウスの認知を拡大する」を目標に、2人1組でSNS戦略を考え発表したんです。私たちのチームは、TiktokとInstagramを使って広告を流し、内容も考えてプレゼン。最終的には、マーケ企画に取り組んだチームの中で最優秀賞を受賞することができました！

ももさん：

私はお客様対応やイベント企画・運営のインターンに参加しました。具体的には、入居希望の方の内見に同行したり、zoomでの説明会補佐や、現入居者としての登壇、シェアハウスの入居者向け交流イベントの運営などに挑戦しました。交流会の内容も自分たちできめ、提供する料理のレシピ考案も準備も、まるっと担当させていただいて、やり甲斐がありましたね。

Q6. インターンで一番学びになったことは？

みなみさん：

ゼミカフェ（ソーシャルビジネスに携わる先輩社会人による、キャリアに関する講座）での学びが一番心に残っています。社会問題の解決に向け、ご自身の経験を活かしながら働いている先輩社会人の方のお話を聞き、ただ自分のやりたいことだけを考えてキャリアの選択をしようとしていた、自分の考えを改めなければいけないと痛感したんです。

くわえて、マーケ企画のワークショップの際に受けたフィードバックで私たちのチームは「筋道立てた説明やプレゼン」の部分を評価していただき、自分にそんな強みがあったのかと大きな気づきになりました。改善点もたくさんありましたが、自分の強みや弱みを見つけられたのは一番の学びになったと感じます。

ももさん：

入居希望のお客様への対応をしてみて、WebやSNS、さまざまなマーケティング手法がある中で、お客様と対峙して直接商品やサービスの魅力をお伝えするのが、他の何よりも一番効果的なマーケティング手法なんじゃないかなと感じたのが印象に残っています。

あとは、シェアハウスでの生活もやはり学びがたくさんありました。語学留学やワーホリに行ってから就活に臨みたいと願う一方で、一般的な学生とは異なるルートをいくのは、慎重派な私にとっては少し勇気のいることでした。でもボーダレスハウスで、オリジナリティ溢れる人生を謳歌しているたくさんのハウスメイトに出会うことができて。普通と少し違う道を選んでも、その生き方を楽しんでいる人はこんなにもいるんだと知れて、すごく刺激をもらえましたね。

Q7. シェアハウス生活・インターンで得た学びを、今後どう活かしていきたい？

みなみさん：

半ば勢いで参加してしまいましたが、そんな私でもたくさんのことを学び持ち帰ることができ、行動することの大切さを実感しました。なのでこれからも、興味のあることにはためらうことなくどんどん挑戦していきたいです！

具体的には、教育分野に関心を持つようになって。子供たちが幼いころから、自分の適性や持ち味に出会えるような環境を整えられるようなことができたらいいなと思っています。きっと日本では、ほとんどの学生が就活直前になってから自己分析を始めると思いますが、それではもったいないと思うんです。私自身、BH CAMPを通して今まで知ることのなかった自分の強み・弱みを見つけることができたように、そんな自己理解のきっかけ作りを、いつか私ができるようになれたらいいなと思っています。

ももさん：

私はハウスメイトとの交流の中で、もっともっと深く英会話を極めていきたいと感じるようになりました。というのも、日本語と英語のユーモア感覚って、結構違ってるんです。せっかく英語を使って世界中の方と仲良くなれるならば、同じ感覚を理解しあえるくらいまで英語スキルを磨きたいなと思います。

あとは、人とのつながりももっと大切にしていこうと思いました。大学でも気心の知れた友人だけと仲良くするのではなく、いろいろな方と交流してつながりを広げていきたいです。実はもう、すでに別のインターンシップに申し込んでいて。BH CAMPで学んだ人とのつながりの大切さを心に刻みながら、今度はもっとリーダーシップを発揮して活動できるように頑張りたいです！

Q8. BH CAMPへの参加を迷っている大学生に、背中押しのメッセージを！

みなみさん：

学生の間は、誰もが自分の将来について悩むものだと思います。福利厚生とか安定とか、そういったものを重視する風潮は未だ根強いですが、BH CAMPで出会うボーダレスハウスの方はそれ以上に、社会への貢献度ややりがいを念頭において行動していて、そんな姿がとても輝いて見えました。

今、せっかくBH CAMPというものを知ったのならば、何かの運命かも？せやハウスでの生活やインターンで、キャリアに対する視点が変わるような貴重な経験ができると思うので、ぜひ気軽にチャレンジしてみてほしいなと思います！

ももさん：

やっぱり何事においても、挑戦してみることってすごく大事だと思うんです。社会人になったら、やりたいことがあったとしてもいろいろな制限がついてきますし、ある程度人生のルートや結末も決まってきてしまう部分もある。だからこそまだまだ可能性の広い学生のうちに、自分の人生を開拓する材料集めをしてみてもいいんじゃないかなって思います。

そう考えると、BH CAMPはまさに新たな挑戦に最適の場所です。もし飛び込んでみて自分には合わないなと感じたとしても、その分自分への理解も深まることになる。自分の得意・苦手分野がわかれば、どこにいけば楽しいかも見えてきやすくなるもの。いずれにせよ、絶対何かを得られると思うので、挑戦してみてほしいですね。

Weekend Trip with Roommates – One Day Trip to the North Coast

After a week of work, not sure where to go for the weekend? Let our Zhongshan-Shuanglian1 housemates take you on an outing!

This time, they have organized a one-day trip to the North Coast, allowing us to explore the recommended attractions and delicacies together!!!

First Stop – Shalun Beach in Tamsui

Located near the Lover’s Bridge in Tamsui, Shalun Beach is a perfect spot to sit on the sand, gaze at the ocean, and experience the tranquility of the coast. This beach, not frequently visited by the public, is a relatively serene hidden gem. Watching children and pets roam freely creates a healing atmosphere. On that day, they brought picnic mats and enjoyed the beach while chatting. One of our housemates from the UK later shared that the view of this sea was truly therapeutic for her, as back in her hometown, she rarely had the opportunity to see such expansive seascapes. She expressed joy in being able to appreciate Taiwan’s coastline with everyone.

Second Stop – Laomei Green Reef

Continuing along the North Coast, you’ll reach a community called “Laomei.” Here, you’ll find Taiwan’s only green reef coast known as “Laomei Green Reef.” What makes it special is that in April, as the northeast monsoon gradually subsides, the reef becomes covered with lush green seaweed, creating a breathtaking landscape known as the “Green Reef.”

Additionally, the local area offers a treat known as “石花凍” (Stone Flower Jelly), a delightful dessert. Our Japanese housemate mentioned that the taste of 石花凍 reminds her of a Japanese summer snack called “ところてん” (Tokoroten), with similar flavors. The difference lies in Japan’s practice of shaping it into noodle-like strips. The most popular way to enjoy it is by drizzling black vinegar, or combining it with bonito soy sauce and sesame. For those with a sweet tooth, you can also try it with a drizzle of black sugar syrup.

Third Stop – Jinshan Old Street


After leaving Laomei, they arrived at the highlight of today’s lunch itinerary – Jinshan Old Street. Jinshan is renowned for three must-try delicacies: crab, duck meat, and sweet potatoes. The Three-Point Crab and Seafood Congee are highly recommended here, which includes a whole crab in one bowl – delicious!

Speaking of sweet potatoes, our Korean housemate tried chatting with the sweet potato vendor in Taiwanese.
Housemate: 這地瓜金價賀甲嗎？ (Is this sweet potato really delicious?)
Surprisingly, they discovered that the Taiwanese pronunciation of “真的” (really) is quite similar to the Korean pronunciation, and they also found similarities in the pronunciation of other words like “圖書館” (library), “學生” (student), and “時間” (time). It was truly fascinating!

After savoring the delicious seafood congee, they visited Jinshan Temple Street. A notable feature here is the self-service duck meat and dishes, with the must-try items being duck meat and fried noodles!

After indulging in duck meat, they found red sweet potato ice cream on the old street, and of course, various fresh sweet potatoes for sale. Once they were full and satisfied, they strolled to the public foot bath at Huanggang Community in the back mountains of Jinshan, offering free hot spring foot baths. Enjoying the scenery and chatting with friends while soaking their feet was truly relaxing.

Unconsciously, dusk arrived, and they prepared to head to the next destination as the sun set in the west.

Fourth Stop – Zhongjiao Bay


After enjoying the foot bath, they headed to Zhongjiao Bay near Jinshan. This beach is known for its cleanliness and is a popular spot among surfing enthusiasts.

They played on the beach until evening. After the activities, hunger struck again, signaling it was time to head to the final destination of the day.

Final Stop – Keelung Temple Night Market


They chose Keelung Temple Night Market as the concluding destination for their North Coast journey. The entrance of the night market exuded a vibrant atmosphere with colorful flags, and on both sides were stalls offering a variety of delicious dishes, including braised pork rice, nutritious sandwiches, bubble ice, and more, waiting for everyone to explore.

After a day of fun and satisfaction, it was time to head home. The housemates had a happy and fulfilling day, looking forward to the next adventure!

Now, how do you get to these North Coast attractions? In addition to convenient public transportation, driving is an excellent choice for touring. Even if you don’t have a car, there’s no need to worry!

【全世界のシェアハウスで国際交流・文化体験】入居者限定プログラム「BORDERLESS TRAVEL」体験談！

シェアハウスで過ごすなかで、英語への苦手意識と外国人との交流に対する思いが激変

───最初に、ゆづきさんが国際交流シェアハウスに入居を決めた理由を教えてください。

英語への苦手意識を払拭して、たくさんの国の人との会話を楽しみたいと思ったのが一番の理由ですね。

元々英語は大好きな教科だったのですが、受験勉強をきっかけに楽しめなくなってしまって……思うように英会話もできなくなってしまったんです。

英語が話せれば一気にいろいろな国の人とコミュニケーションを取れるようになるし、新しい文化や価値観に触れられるようになるのに、日本語しか話せないのはもったいないと感じて。

否が応でも英語を話さないといけない環境に身を置きたいと思って、ボーダレスハウスのシェアハウスに入居することを決めたんです。

───入居先として、他にも検討されたシェアハウスはありましたか？

ボーダレスハウスを内見したその日に入居を即決したので、他の場所は検討しなかったです！

英語の実践環境も人との交流機会も、そして金銭面でも私にぴったりだと思いましたし、翌年には留学に行きたいと思っていたので、日本で留学の練習ができるなら最高だなと思って。

───シェアハウスには、どんなハウスメイトがいましたか？

初日から「これから一緒にParty行かない？」って誘ってくれたハウスメイトがいて驚きましたね（笑）！

最初は少し緊張していたのですが、明るい人が多くてすぐに打ち解けられました。

どこに出かけるにもずっと一緒にいるくらい仲良くなった外国人ハウスメイトの親友や、異なる価値観を分かち合うことができた社会人ハウスメイト。

共同生活を送るなかで出てきたモヤモヤがあれば、西陣ハウスで定例開催しているハウスミーティングで話し合い、改善する機会も作れているので、とても素敵なコミュニティだなと感じています。

全員が自分の軸をしっかり持っていて、いろいろな考え方に触れられたのはとてもいい経験でした。

───シェアハウスで過ごしていくなかで、自己成長や変化など感じた点があれば、ぜひ教えてください。

外国人の方と一緒にいるときの意識が激変しました！

元々は、私にとって外国人の方と一緒にいることは非日常的で、ちょっとした緊張感を持っていました。

でも国際交流シェアハウスでの生活を通して、今では人種も国籍も意識することなく会話を楽しめるようになったと思います。

例えるなら、新しく出会うハウスメイトと交わす「どこの国から来たの？」が、大学入学直後の「どこの県出身？」くらいの感覚というか（笑）。

まさにボーダレスなマインドに変わりましたね！

実はシェアハウスに入居した当初からこのプログラムのことは知っていて、いつかはこの制度を使って海外に行ってみたいと思っていたんです。

一人でホテル宿泊するよりも、ハウスメイトがいる海外のシェアハウスならその国の言語を学んだり交流も楽しめるし、夏のカナダ留学に備えて、人生初の一人海外渡航の経験を積んでみたくて。

───ゆづきさんにとって初めての海外生活がBORDERLESS TRAVELだったのですね！渡航の際に困ったことなどはありませんでしたか？

初めての入国審査も不安でしたし、シェアハウスまで複数の電車を乗り継いで一人で向かわなければいけないのも緊張しましたが、幸い、大きなトラブルはありませんでした！

高麗大のシェアハウスに滞在したのですが、ハウスに到着すると、運営スタッフであるロビンがまず出迎えてくれて、向こうでの生活の仕方やおすすめの観光スポットなどを教えてくれて。ずっとメールでやりとりしていたロビンとやっと出会うことができて、緊張がほぐれてホッとしました。

───初めての海外はとても緊張しますよね。韓国のシェアハウスでの滞在期間、日本との違いを感じたポイントなどはありますか？

生ゴミと燃えるゴミを分別して出さなければいけなかったり、公共施設ではトイレットペーパーを便器に流さずに個室内のゴミ箱に捨てなければいけなかったりなど、生活様式との違いが結構あって興味深かったです！

ホテル滞在と違って、現地の方々の暮らしに近い環境で生活できるので、こういった文化の違いに気づけるのもBORDERLESS TRAVELのメリットの一つかもしれません。

───今回は7日間の滞在でしたが、期間中に何か意識して取り組んだことなどはありましたか？

とにかくシェアハウスの仲間には、自分から積極的に話しかけるように心がけていました。

向こうでは初めてのシェア部屋に滞在させていただいたのですが、イタリア人のルームメイトとは、滞在初日で急速に仲良くなって！あいにく翌日彼女は東京旅行に旅立ってしまい、それぞれの帰国のタイミングが合わず初日の交流以降はお会いできなかったのですが、Instagramでお互いのストーリーズにメッセージを送りあったり、「東京楽しんでる？」と声をかけたりするほどの仲になりました。

他のハウスメイトも、日本に関心のある外国人ハウスメイトが多かったこともあり、日本語・英語・韓国語を交えて交流を楽しめました。

───韓国語でも会話を楽しまれたのですか？

実は元々韓国ドラマにハマっていたこともあり、自然と習得して英語よりも韓国語の方が話せるくらいなんです（笑）。滞在期間中はロビンがLanguage Exchangeイベントに誘ってくれ、シェアハウスの外の方とも広くお会いして会話を楽しむことができて本当に充実していました。

───7日間の滞在で交流も楽しめたようで嬉しいです！他にはどのようなことをされましたか？

興味があった歴史的建造物や博物館に足を運びました。韓国の伝統衣装を着て、キョンボックンという昔の宮廷を散策したり、DMZと呼ばれる北朝鮮との国境付近にも行ってきました。

日本人向けツアーに参加したのですが、その場で出会った参加者の方とも意気投合したりして。

1950年から朝鮮半島で起こった戦争のことを、日本では「朝鮮戦争」と呼んでいますが、韓国では「韓国戦争」と呼ぶそうです。戦争の呼び名もそうですし、韓国の方から見た歴史の捉え方などもこの機会に学ぶことができて、とても良い経験になりました。

Property Development Manager Shares His Vision for Jujo Share House

In designing Borderless House Jujo, we’ve paid special attention to crafting spaces where residents can easily relax and connect. From opting for a larger living room to installing plenty of washbasins, every choice was made with comfort and community in mind.

Watching Jujo House evolve from an empty lot to a structure with walls and a roof has been an incredibly moving experience. It’s fascinating to see it slowly come to life, step by step.

国際交流シェアハウスの大学生スタッフにインタビュー！「人生のロールモデルに出会い、将来の目標が見つかりました」

こんにちは、ボーダレスハウスです！

外国人のハウスメイトと一緒にシェアハウス生活をしつつ、日常から国際交流を楽しむことができるボーダレスハウス。
充実したシェアハウス生活を送りながら、ボーダレスハウスの運営サポートを体験できる「大学生スタッフ」として入居ができることをご存知でしょうか？

今回お話を伺ったのは、大学2年生のころから約2年間、大阪の弁天町ハウスでシェアハウス生活をしながら大学生スタッフとしてのお仕事を経験したまゆさん。

入居者としてだけでなく、シェアハウスの運営にも携わることで、ご自身の将来の夢を具体化したり、異国での居場所づくりの重要性に気づくことができたりと、新しい発見や自己成長を実感できたといいます。

───まずは簡単に、自己紹介をお願いいたします！

大阪の大学に通いながらボーダレスハウスの大学生インターンとして活動しているまゆと申します。

先月まで弁天町のシェアハウスに住んでいましたが、4月からは東京へ引っ越し、政府関係機関でお仕事をする予定です。

───まゆさんが国際交流シェアハウスへの入居を決めたきっかけを教えてください。

大学1年生のときにアメリカ留学を経験したのですが、ちょうどコロナが到来してしまい3ヶ月で帰国を余儀なくされてしまったのがきっかけです。

楽しみにしていた留学生活を断念せざるを得なくなってしまい、日本でも国際交流ができる場所がないか探していたときに、ボーダレスハウスを見つけたんです。

───通常の入居者としてではなく、大学生スタッフという方法で入居を選んだ理由は何だったのでしょうか？

元々大学の講義でボーダレス・ジャパン（ボーダレスハウスが所属するソーシャルビジネスカンパニー）の取り組みを知り、興味を持っていたんです。

そこでシェアハウスの大学生スタッフ募集を見つけ、さまざまな年代や国籍の方と出会う機会があることを知りました。国際交流を通じて自分の価値観を広げることができるんじゃないかと思って、大学生スタッフとして参加することに決めました。

仲間との交流と自分時間、どちらも大切にできるシェアハウス生活

───シェアハウスに入居してからは、ハウスメイトとどんな生活を送っていましたか？

シェアハウスの仲間とは、週に一度くらいのペースで一緒に外に食事をしに行ったり、他のハウスのメンバーもお呼びして料理を振る舞い、ハウスパーティを開催したりして楽しんでいました。

私がアルバイトから遅く帰ってきたときにハウスメイトが親子丼を作って待っていてくれたのが心に残っていて、日常のワンシーンではありますが、とても嬉しかったのを覚えています。

大阪にある3つのシェアハウス（弁天町・鶴橋・玉造）はすべてJR環状線沿いにあるので、玉造ハウスの広い共有スペースで夜遅くまで時間を過ごして、みんなで終電ダッシュ！なんてこともよくありました（笑）。

───まゆさんはシェア部屋で生活をされていたそうですが、ルームメイトとの共同生活はどうでしたか？

私が住んでいたシェアハウスは、シェア部屋とはいいつつも割としっかり仕切りが作られているお部屋でした。

なので同じ部屋にはいながらも、自分の時間もきちんと確保できていましたね。

部屋ではプライベートな時間も作りつつ、リビングに行けば心を許せるシェアハウスの仲間と気軽に交流ができる。

そんなメリハリのある生活が持てたからこそ、国際交流を思いっきり楽しめたのかなと思います。

───大学生のうちに国際交流シェアハウスで過ごすことで、どのようなメリットを感じましたか？

さまざまな国籍や年代、バックグラウンドが違う方とかかわることで、人生の先輩ができ、たくさんのアドバイスをいただけるのはメリットだと思います！

私もシェアハウスの皆さんと接しながら、自分自身の揺るがない軸がほしいと感じるようになりました。

たくさんの方とのかかわりあいの中で、どんな自分になりたいかを考える機会になるし、職業や進路選択の参考にも絶対なると思います。

───シェアハウスでの一番の思い出を教えてください！

シェアハウスのみんなでよく利用していた行きつけのカフェがあって、そこのオーナーさんとの交流が一番心に残っています。

送別会などでよく利用させていただいていて、私たちとかかわっていくなかでオーナーさんや地域の方々も国際交流に興味を持ってくれるようになったんです。

シェアハウスに遊びにきてくださったり、ハウスメイトが帰国するときには泣いて寂しがってくださったり。

オーナーさんが体調を崩され、お店を閉めていた時期があったのですが、復帰の際にはシェアハウスのメンバーで接客のお手伝いをしたことも。

シェアハウスの域を超えて、地域の方も巻き込んでボーダレスハウスのコミュニティが広がっていくのを感じて、本当に嬉しく感じました。

最初は外国の方を見ると、よく知らないがゆえに怖かったり不安を感じたりしてしまう方もいると思うんですが、ちゃんと相手を知れば日本を好きでいてくれていることもわかるし、応援したいと思ってもらえるんだなって。

───大学生スタッフとして、どんなお仕事を経験されたか、教えてください！

主には入居希望者のご対応とイベントの企画・運営、SNSコンテンツの制作なども行なっていました。

具体的には、シェアハウスの内見案内、契約書の説明、退去チェック、入居者相談対応、Tiktokの撮影やYouTubeの動画編集などなど……

───インターンながら、さまざまな業務を経験されていたのですね！学業との両立は難しく感じませんでしたか？

シフト希望を柔軟に聞いてくださったので、特に難しさを感じることはなかったです。

動画の撮影や内見対応で他のシェアハウスにで向くこともありましたが、基本的には大阪のシェアハウスでお仕事をさせていただきましたし、授業や面接などの急な予定変更にも柔軟に対応してくださったのでありがたかったです！

───大学生スタッフを経験して、自己成長を感じたことや変化を実感したことがあれば、教えてください！

まずは、お仕事に対する考え方が大きく変わりました。

ボーダレスハウスは、人々の衣食住の中でも「住」という大切な部分を担う会社で、入居を決断する方にとってもその決断は大きなものですし、重要なお仕事が多いです。

安心して相談できる関係性やコミュニティづくりなど、シェアハウス入居者さんやお客様との距離感や丁寧な対応が何よりも大切なのだと感じるようになりました。

そのためにも、スタッフ間でのコミュニケーションも軽んじてはいけないということも学びましたね。

そして私にとっては、ボーダレスハウスで過ごす期間の中で自分の将来の夢が具体化されていったのも大きな変化でした。

大学生になりたてのころは、誰かの役に立つために公務員になろうという漠然とした目標しか思い描けていませんでしたが、外国人のハウスメイトと友達になることで、「日本と世界を繋ぐ架け橋になりたい！海外に誇れる日本を作っていきたい！」と明確な目標が見えてくるようになったんです。

4月からは社会人として、ボーダレスハウスで出会ったハウスメイトの顔を思い浮かべながら、日本で働きたいけれど言語や文化の違いなどさまざまな障壁を抱え困っている方の支えになるような人材として活躍していきたいです。

───どんな人なら、ボーダレスハウスの大学生スタッフを楽しめると思いますか？

何より、人との交流が大好きな方にはぴったりなお仕事だと思います。

特に外国人入居者にとっては、内見担当者や契約担当者が日本で初めて接する日本人になることも少なくはありません。

大学生スタッフは、入居者とシェアハウス運営スタッフの両方を掛け合わせている立場なので、なんでも頼っていただけるような関係性を築ける方や、純粋に人とかかわるのが好きな方にはおすすめですね。

とはいえ、ときには入居者さんに重要なことを伝えたり、共同生活するうえでの改善点を指摘することも必要です。

伝えるべきことはきちんと伝え、遊ぶときは思いっきり遊ぶ。

仕事とプライベートのメリハリを持てる方も、きっと大学生スタッフには向いていると思います。

───国際交流シェアハウスへの入居を迷っている方に、背中押しのメッセージをお願いします！

ボーダレスハウスでの生活を通して、年代、国籍、さまざまなバックグラウンドを抱えた人と出会うことができるので、自分が見えてる世界がすごく広がると思います。

変わり映えのない毎日が、シェアハウスの仲間がいることで鮮やかな日常に変わっていくので、気になる方はぜひ一度シェアハウスを訪れてほしいです！

私と同じように初めてのシェアハウス生活では、ご家族の方が不安という方もいるかも知れませんが、内見の際にご家族が同行することもできるので、まずは気軽に遊びにいらしていただきたいですね。

───最後に、シェアハウスで出会った仲間たちに伝えたいことはありますか？

実は私、ボーダレスハウスで出会った人の中で、「この人苦手だな」と思った方が一人もいないんです。

何かすれ違いそうなことがあったとしても、長い時間をともにするからこそ解決したいって心から思えるし、その分深い対話を重ねていくことができて、本当に居心地がいいコミュニティでした。

この約2年間、たくさんの刺激を皆さんからいただいたし、人生の目標にしたい方にもたくさん出会いました。

私もここで出会った仲間のように、これからいろいろなことに興味を持って何事にも貪欲に挑戦していきたいと思います。

私と出会ってくれて、そしてかけがえないロールモデルになってくれて、本当にありがとうございました！

Ikebukuro Oyama House boasts an ideal location, just a one-minute walk from Oyama Station on the Tobu Tojo Line.

The entrance to the house is on the second floor.

On the day of the visit, the weather was beautiful, and sunlight filled the space, making it shine brilliantly!

Near Oyama Station, there’s the Happy Road shopping district that stretches north to south, lined with numerous eateries and stores for daily necessities.

The area around the house serves as a tranquil base for living, yet it buzzes with energy and is filled with people once you step into the shopping district.

Moreover, with Ikebukuro, a new urban center brimming with various trends, just a 5-minute train ride away, the location can truly be described as ideal.

On the day of our visit, we had the pleasure of meeting two current residents. Despite the sudden visit, we were warmly greeted with smiles by Denise from Germany and Marcelo from Brazil.

We visited with Juri, a staff member of the house, and immediately started catching up with each other in English.

The defining feature of Ikebukuro Oyama House, according to both of them, is the vibrant interaction among the residents.

Denise, who moved in last October and is now in her fourth month at the house, particularly remembers the time spent during the Christmas party.

Amidst the nervousness of just having moved in, sharing a feast with other housemates, setting a budget for a gift exchange, and bursting into laughter while watching housemates dance around the Christmas tree…

She shared that the Christmas party served as a catalyst for getting closer to her housemates.

Marcelo, who is in his seventh month of residency, recently went on a trip to Atami with his housemates.

They enjoyed the beauty of the “Atami cherry blossoms,” which can only be seen in the winter, and relaxed in a foot bath they stumbled upon along the way, fully embracing the Japanese winter experience.

Even without seasonal events, you can enjoy international exchange in everyday life.

Ikebukuro Oyama House is unique among Borderless Houses for having all private rooms, allowing residents to enjoy shared living while maintaining their personal space.

However, most residents often spend meal times in the communal living and dining area. It’s commonplace for housemates to offer their food to others who join them at the dining table, saying, “Would you like to try some?” as part of their daily interactions.

Another wonderful aspect of Ikebukuro Oyama House is the tradition of always celebrating each housemate’s birthday!

In February, three residents had birthdays, and the custom is to hold an individual birthday party for each person, rather than combining them into one event.

Not only current residents but also alumni and friends gather for these parties, enjoying fun times together. This tradition fosters a strong sense of community and lasting friendships among those associated with Ikebukuro Oyama House.
