シリーズ3人目は、海外の大学への準備としてボーダレスハウス大森１に2年半滞在したサラさん。

シェアハウス内での出会いを経て進学ではなく、転職と結婚を決意し、パートナーと卒業されたその経緯を伺います。

入居理由は海外への進学準備。退去理由は生涯のパートナーに巡り合えたから

ー自己紹介をお願いします。
サラです。日本人です(笑)大森１シェアハウスに2016~2019年の間約2年半住んでいました。
趣味はスノーボードです。3年程前に大森シェアハウスの友達と初めて行ってから毎年行くようになりました。毎週行っていた時もあります。

ーボーダレスハウスに入居したきっかけはなんですか？
海外の大学進学を考えていたので、外国人が居る環境で英語と異文化に慣れるためにボーダレスハウスに入居しました。

ー大学への進学では最初何を学ぼうと思っていましたか？
→ソーシャルワークを学ぼうと思っていました。今でもやりたい気持ちはあるので、セカンドライフか、副業でその分野のお仕事も出来たらいいなぁと思っています。

ーボーダレスハウスを退去した理由はなんですか？
入居中に彼氏が出来て、二人で住むことになったので退去を決めました。
ボーダレスハウスが一部屋に2人入居可能だったらもっと住んでいたかったなあと思っています。

ーボーダレスハウスに入居中の思い出にはどんなものがありますか？
週末にパーティーをしたり、飲み会をしたりして盛り上がりました。
毎日誰かしらリビングにいるので毎日が楽しい思い出でした。

親身になってくれる一生涯の友人がいろんな国にできました。

ーその中でも印象的なエピソードはどういったものがありますか？
凄く料理上手な日系アメリカ人の男の子がいて、その子に魚の捌き方を教えてもらいました。アジフライからタイの煮付けまで様々な魚の捌き方を教えてもらい、一時期は毎晩のように一緒にキッチンに立ち、出来た料理をハウスメイトに振舞っていました。

ー逆に住んでいてトラブルなどはありましたか？
食べた食器を放置して洗わない人が居て、そのことでよくトラブルにはなっていました。まぁ、30人のハウスなんでそういう問題がある程度起きても仕方ないなぁとは思いつつ、洗って欲しいとは思っていました。


ーボーダレスハウスに入居したことでチャレンジしようと思ったことはなにかありますか？
プログラミングです。私が住んでいた頃、大森ハウスは不思議なことに1/3くらいの入居者がIT関係のお仕事をされていて、自然と興味を持つようになりました。
私は元々パソコンに苦手意識を持っていましたが、周りに優秀な先生が沢山いたのでわからないことはリビングでよく質問していました。

ー元ハウスメイトと今はどんな関係を保っていますか？
今でも連絡も取ってますし、交流もあり仲の良い関係です。コロナ以前には1ヶ月に1回くらいは前の住人や今の住人も集まってパーティーや飲み会をしていました。日本にいる友達はもちろんですが、海外に帰国した外国人の友達や、海外で働くことになった日本人の友達とも現地で会ったりします。いろんな国に友達がいるので旅行するのがとても楽しいです。


ー入居して自分で感じられた変化とはなんですか？
意外に助けてくれる人って多いものなんだという考えが生まれたことです。

今までは自分一人でなんでも解決しなければいけなし、困っても自力でなんとかしなければいけない思っていました。しかし、大森ハウスに住んで、本当にいろんな人に助けてもらいました。
色々なバックグラウンドの人がいて、協力的な人が本当に多くて、悩みや困ってることを相談したら親身になり様々な角度から一緒に解決方法を考えてくれました。

ー変化を感じたきっかけはなんですか？
きっかけは覚えていないです(笑)これという決定的な出来事があるわけではなく、気づいたらいつの間にか変化していたという感じです。

パートナーと支えあいながら、未来を歩んでいきたい。そのために転職を選択しました。

ーなぜ転職をされましたか？
留学と結婚を天秤にかけた時、結婚の方を優先すべきだと思ったからです。
留学は何歳になっても出来るけど、結婚するのにはある程度年齢は関係あるし、人生そう何回も結婚したいと思える人に出会えるわけではないと思い、留学ではなく彼の仕事を手伝うことも出来る職種に転職するという選択をしました。

ー転職される前のお仕事を簡単に教えていたたけませんか？
飲食店で働きながら、海外の大学への進学準備をしていました。

ー差し支えなければ彼氏さんとの入居して最初に得た印象がどう変化し、結婚のパートナーになったのか教えていただけませんか？
私の一目惚れでした。
性格が悪かったら嫌だなと思い、そのあとしばらく慎重に観察していました(笑)　数週間見ていても、性格も良いしと思ってこの人が好きで大丈夫だなぁと思いそれからすぐ付き合うようになりました。
付き合って1ヶ月目に海外旅行に行き、よくある旅行中に喧嘩するということもなく、日々一緒に過ごしている中で居心地がよく、誰にも相談出来ないような悩みも彼にだけは相談出来ました。2ヶ月くらいで私は結婚を意識するようになりました。彼にもその意思があるかその時に確認しました。

ーボーダレスハウスでの生活を経てこれからどうなりたいか、夢や目標など有れば教えてください！
留学するという目標は一旦流れる形になりましたが、留学ではなく就職で海外に住みたいです！せっかくWebデザイナーのスキルを手に入れたし、しかもプログラミング言語は世界共通なので、それを生かして海外でWebデザイナーとして働けるようになるのが今の目標です！
あとは今の彼氏と幸せな家庭を築くことです(笑)

ーこれから入居する入居者さんに何か一言をおねがいします！
とにかく楽しいことが多いと思います！いい意味で変わった人が多いですが、家賃が安くない分それなりの方が住んでます。というか普通に結婚相談所とか入るよりいい相手に巡り会える可能性高いと思います(笑)
転職や結婚のチャンスがあるのも間違い無いです。私が住んでいた時期に私以外にIT系に転職した女性が1人。入籍をした国際カップルが2組いました。
一生付き合っていける友人、パートナーが出来る可能性十分なので、是非リビングに毎日顔を出してください！

ー生涯のパートナーとの出会いはどこに眠っているかわかりませんね…！しかし新しい目標もパートナーとの関係性が築かれたのもきっとサラさんのパワフルな行動力が理由ではないかと感じました。サラさん貴重なお話ありがとうございました！

シリーズ2人目は、30歳の直前に英語を勉強したいと一念発起し、ボーダレスハウスに1年半滞在しているぐーひーさん。

滞在中にぐんぐん英語力が向上し、外資系企業に転職された経緯を伺います。

30歳手前の転機。海外で働く準備はまずボーダレスハウスから

ーまずは自己紹介をお願いします！
ぐーひーと申します。今年32歳になります。
ハウスではぐーひーとかぐっちと呼ばれています。
ボーダレスハウスには2018年の10月から大井町シェアハウスに引っ越してきて、今一年半ほどになります。スポーツが好きで、テニスとかボルダリングをよくしています。今はコロナでできませんが、それ以前はハウスメイトと週一で行っていました。
料理も好きで、シェアハウスではみんなにふるまったり、一緒に作ったりしています。

ーボーダレスハウスに入居したきっかけはなんでしょうか？
30歳になる直前に30代の自分のキャリアを見つめ直し、海外で働いてみたいと考えました。そして英語の勉強を始めようと思ったことがきっかけです。
最初は友人に相談したんですが、その時に「今すぐ仕事をやめて海外に留学に行け」と言われまして。
ただ、仕事はやめたくなかったし、良いやり方がないかなと模索した時にプライベートで学ぼうと思いました。
シェアハウス且つ、海外の方と住めるところを探し、ボーダレスハウスに入居しました。

ー30歳からシェアハウスに！ではそれまでは一人暮らしだったんでしょうか？
はい、それまでは都内で7年ほど一人暮らしをしていて初めての共同生活でした。

一番印象的な思い出は、入居当日にそのままハウスメイトの誕生日パーティーへ行ったこと

ーはじめての共同生活で困ったことなどありましたか？
困ったことというより、印象的だったことはたくさんあります。
その中でも一番印象的だったのは入居した日でした。
ちょうどその日がハウスメイトの誕生日会だったんです。
引っ越しの片付けもせず、ハウスメイトに「みんなで花火を見に行こう！」と誘われて夕方から花火を見に行き、一緒に焼肉屋さんでお祝いをしました。
まだ誰の顔も名前も覚えていなかったにもかかわらず、ハウスメイトがまったく気にせず連れ出してくれた初日。二子玉川の花火大会の衝撃と戸惑いが入り混じった思い出を今でも覚えています。

ー初日でいきなり花火はなかなか珍しい思い出ですね！他にも印象的な思い出はありますか？
入居して2週間後に主催した自分の誕生日パーティーもいい思い出でしたね。
30歳までどこにも活躍しなかった”お寿司を握る”という特技があるんですが、その特技が大活躍で。
みんなにお寿司を振舞い、特に海外のみんなは「寿司が自分で握れるんだ！」と感動してくれました。大井町シェアハウスでは誕生日会やフェアウェルパーティーは必ずやるので、一つ一つが大切な思い出です。

ー誰かのお祝いやお見送りをする文化がシェアハウス内で出来上がってるのは素敵ですね！みんなで出かけたりもされるんですか？
六本木とか代々木公園とかにみんなでピクニックに行ったり、何人かでガラス工房に行ったり、よくいろんなところに出かけています。
僕は何かやろうって声をかけるのが好きで、去年の夏なんかは自作の流しそうめんをやってすごく盛り上がりました。

シェアハウスは実践の場。生活しながら生の英語を覚えていきました。

ーボーダレスハウスに入居したことでチャレンジしようと思ったことってなにかありますか？
もともと英語の勉強することが目的だったので、心がけていたのは勉強とコミュニケーションです。
入居当時は英語ができず、特に最初の2か月はハウスメイトと意思疎通も難しかったんですが、とにかく毎日継続して勉強をしました。
もう一つは、休みの日はハウスメイトと出かけたり、できるだけパーティーやイベントでコミュニケーションをとることは心がけていました。
そうしてだんだんと英語が身につくようになりました。

ー他にも英語を身に着けていく上で具体的にはどんなことを行っていましたか？
英会話学校で働いているハウスメイトにおすすめのテキストや単語帳などを教えてもらって勉強していました。
そして国際交流シェアハウスで良かった点としては、覚えた単語や文法を次の日にハウスメイトとの会話などで使ってみれたことですね。

ー勉強にはハウスメイトの協力もあったんですか？
僕のハウスでは10人外国籍の人々がいるんですが、入居した当初は日本語が話せる方がほとんどいなかったので、一緒にいることで自然と身についていきました。
後はリビングで勉強しているとハウスメイトが単語のクイズを出したりして手伝ってくれていました。
TOEICの受験準備をしていた時は夜中の２時まで付き合ってくれましたよ

ーTOEICはどれくらい伸びたんでしょうか？
入居当初は400点台ぐらいだったんですが、1年後の試験では800点台になっていました。TOEIC対策の勉強をしていたわけではなく、基本的なものをずっと勉強していて点数が伸びたので着実に英語力が伸びていることが実感できたのは嬉しかったです。


ー入居して自分の中で感じられた変化はやっぱり英語が身についたことでしょうか？

語学もありますが、それ以上に、今まで海外の友人は居なかったんですが、友人が一気に増えて考え方の違いが肌で感じられるようになったことは大きいです。

例えば教育についても、なんとなく各国の教育は違うってことはわかっていましたが、実際に生でどんな教育を受けてきたかの話をする機会ってないので、そこで違いが知れたのは面白かったですね。

ーその変化が日常で役に立ったことってありますか？
いろんな価値観のハウスメイトと一緒にいるので、色んな世代の方の価値観の違いをすんなり受け入れるようになりました。
職場でも20代から50代の人までいて、価値観が全く違いますが、「違って当たり前、じゃあどうしよう」と考えて接するようになりました。

英語力が伸びたことで仕事の選択肢が増えていきました。

ーなぜ転職を決意されたんですか？
ボーダレスハウスに入居した時に海外で働くことを中期的なゴールにしていたので、最初のステップとして英語を使う会社に転職することは当初から考えていました。
ただ、入居当時はシェアハウスの生活に慣れることや英語の勉強もあったので、入居から半年くらいで英語の余裕が出てきたときに本格的に転職活動に取り組むようになりました。

ー転職の時に基準にしていたことはなんでしょうか？
前職で英語のキャリアがない中で、英語を公用語としている会社に転職することはとても難しいので、最初は日本企業で転職の可能性があるところを中心に受けていました。
ただ、TOEICの点数が上がってからは外資系の企業にもエントリーできるようになり、オファーをいただけるようになって選択肢が増えていきました。

ーその中でも今の会社への決め手はなんだったんでしょうか？
世界15か国に拠点を持っていて、海外支社への異動にチャレンジできる環境であることと、社内の公用語が英語ではあってもクライアントが日本企業中心なので日英半々のコミュニケーションができることが、英語の勉強を始めて1年の僕にとっては適切なステップだと思いました。

ー転職に際し、英語以外でボーダレスハウスでの生活の影響があったことはありますか？
知らない外資系の会社のリアルな声が聞けたことが良かったですね。
海外の会社を受けるようになってから、日本で知られている外資系の会社ってごく一部だと気づきました。
今の会社も元々は知らなかったんですが、イギリス人のハウスメイトに会社の情報やアドバイスを聞いて受けることにしました。
それぞれの会社の本社所在国出身の人に現地の知名度や情報を聞ける環境は有難かったです。

ーボーダレスハウスでの生活を経て今後どのような目標がありますか？
30歳の時に立てた目標が海外で働くことだったので、40歳までの10年間で海外に生活拠点を移していきたいなと考えています。
その一つのステップとして海外支社に移ることが直近の目標ですね。

ー当初は住みたい国はまだわからないと言っていましたが、今はどこの国に住みたいか決まっていますか？
まずは英語が通じる国で暮らしてみたいなと考えています。
ただ、転職前に20日間ほど休みをもらって、元ハウスメイトに会いにヨーロッパ4か国に初めて旅行に行ったときに、ドイツにとても惹かれたのでいつかは住んでみたいと思っています。

英語の勉強をする道は一つじゃない。でもシェアハウスの魅力は世界中に友人ができること

ー最後にぜひこれから入居する皆さんに一言いただけたらと思います！
英語を勉強するだけならやり方はたくさんあると思います。
英会話学校やオンライン英会話やYouTubeとかもあるし、道は一つじゃないです。
ただ、ボーダレスハウスに入居して得られることは英語だけじゃなくて、色んな国の価値感や違いを知ることができて、世界中に友達ができることが一番の魅力だと思います。

House Sharing Will Bring You Socializing Opportunities

A house is much more than just a roof over your head which protects you from the sun or rain. Instead, it is also a sanctuary, a comforting, silent, and safe space and at times also an investment. A house is a place where you stay protected from all the physical, intellectual, and emotional troubles and where you grow independently from the outer world. The facilities that your home offers determine your living standards and your quality of life. Hence, maybe now, you can get an idea regarding how housing decisions are significant and why such decisions should be made with utmost care.

But finding a house in a new space is a tricky process. When you move or shift to a new city or country, housing becomes a bit of a problem. You can opt from a variety of options like a single room, a double room, a room with three or more tenants, or even an apartment styled room where you have an attached toilet and shower. When you move into a new country or a new city one problem that you face is socializing. Even though the world is now a very global space still at some places you may find residents reluctant to bond with the foreigners at least initially. When you are away from your friends and family who act as your support system, this might feel depressing.

But with share houses, this problem gets resolved naturally. This is so because in share houses you can find dozens of people who are in a similar condition as yours. They are there in a foreign land trying to work or study while fighting the feelings of isolation and loneliness. They miss their families and they are eager to make new friends. Now since you are living with them and spending a lot of time together you will discover that befriending such people is actually quite easy! All it takes is to find a common ground and socializing is no more a problem.

This is so because now you will have so many people to learn from about different cuisines, different languages, different traditions and what not! This is a great opportunity for the international people as now they get a chance to mingle with the local folk and to learn from them about their language, food, and culture. You can now hang around the new places with your brand-new local buddy without being anxious all the time about doing something inadequate or stupid. This experience is just having your own guide-cum-close friend.

This will be great for you because living with fellow students will save you from being distracted and from losing sight of your goal. 【入居者インタビュー】入居者さんは武術の達人？！田端のシェアハウスに住むインドネシア武術の日本代表選手

突然ですが、皆さまプンチャックシラットという武術をご存知でしょうか？
プンチャックシラットとはユネスコの無形文化遺産にも登録されているインドネシアの伝統武術です。

インドネシアではポピュラーな競技で、日本で言う相撲のような存在です。
しかし、日本での競技人口は約100人とまだまだ知られていません。

そんな珍しい伝統武術をしている方ってどんな方なんだろう？と思いませんか？

実は日本代表がボーダレスハウスに住んでいるのです！

この記事では珍しい伝統武術に取り組んだきっかけと、プンチャックシラットの魅力を田端２シェアハウスの日本代表の久我和也さんにインタビューしていきます！

プンチャックシラットに魅せられて

ーまずは自己紹介をお願いします！
こんにちは！久我和也と申します。出身は新潟県で今は24歳です。
普段はIT系のベンチャー企業で営業兼プログラマーで働きながら、それ以外の時間でプンチャックシラットに取り組んでいます。

ーなぜボーダレスハウスを選んだんですか？
久我：社会人になってからは英語を使用する機会があまりないので、英語を日常に残したいという理由と、海外の方から見た価値観や大切にしていることに興味があり、交流を深めたかった理由で入居しました。

プンチャックシラットを始めたきっかけは友人からの誘いでした

ープンチャックシラットは日本では馴染みのないスポーツだと思うんですが、どんなスポーツなんですか？

シラットはインドネシアやマレ―半島地域が発祥で、1000年の歴史を持つ伝統的な武術です。オランダの植民地支配時には一時的に武術を禁止されていましたが、あくまで「舞踏」であるという風に強く市民の間で重んじられ、守られてきました。
沢山の流派があり、宗教実践や伝統芸能、人生儀礼や年中行事とも深く結びついているといわれています。
日本での競技人口は100人ですが、世界ではおよそ10万人ほどの競技人口がいます。

ープンチャックシラットとの出会い、そして始めたきっかけはなんですか？
大学生のときにインドネシアに2週間留学してはじめて試合を見たのが出会いでした。
その時はまさか自分がインドネシアで見た伝統武術をやるだなんて思っていませんでしたが、日本に戻ってきてたまたま仲のいい友人がシラットをやっていて、「一緒にやらないか」とに誘われてはじめました。

ーその時から本格的にプンチャックシラットをなさっていたんですか？
本格的に始めたのは実は去年からなんです。
2つ理由があって、一つが僕は小学校から大学までずっと野球をやっていたんですけど、ちょうど大学を卒業したときに野球人生に一区切りがついて、
「新しいことに取り組みたいな」と感じるようになりました。
そこから本格的にプンチャックシラットに打ち込むようになりました。
もう一つは20代で国際大会に出られるかもしれないと思い、全力で取り組んでチャレンジしたい！と思ったからです。

個人で銅メダル、そして3人演舞でも4位の好成績

ー最初に国際大会に出ようと思ったきっかけはなんだったんですか？
僕をシラットに誘ってくれた友人が、今度は国際大会に出場するチームに誘ってくれたことがきっかけです。
シラットには三人演舞があります。それは3人で型を行い、その美しさや呼吸を競うというものです。
そして三人演舞は背丈や体格が近い人と組むことでより美しく見えると言われています。友人とちょうど体格も近く、彼と一緒に世界と戦ってみたいと思い、国際大会の演舞を引き受けることになりました。


ー国際大会の結果はいかがでしたか？
地区大会などは何度か出たことがあるのですが、国際大会は初めてだったのでとても緊張しました。
しかし、三人演舞ということもあり、仲間がとても心強く落ち着いて競技に臨めたおかげで四位の成績をいただくことができました。
さらには、個人では銅メダルの結果を残すことができました。

ー国際大会で印象的なことはなんでしたか？
とても嬉しかったことは会場からの応援の声でした。
日本は他の国に比べて競技人口が少なく、大会などに応援に来てくれる人も国際大会だとほとんどいません。

しかし、僕ら日本代表の活動を他国の選手やサポーターもインスタグラムなどで知ってくれていたので僕たちの演舞中に各国代表やそのサポーターから応援の声をいただきました。
とてもスポーツマンシップを感じて嬉しかったし、国同士というよりも個人個人のベストで挑み、そこをリスペクトしてもらえている気持ちになりました。

平和のための武術を通して

ー久我さんにとってシラットの魅力とはなんですか？
他の武術との違いでもある、シラットの精神が魅力ですね。

シラットはあくまで「戦うため」の武術ではなく護身術であり、自分の身を守ったり、友人知人を守るために行うと言われています。例えばどの宗派の型を見ても必ず「受け」や「避ける」動作から演舞が始まるのが其の特徴です。「一番いいことはみんなが仲良くなること」とシラットの一番有名な師範も仰っているように平和のための武術であることがとても魅力だと感じてます。
美しさもまた、魅力の一つです。
シラットの動きはとても美しいと世界的に言われており、ハリウッドで動きを採用されてアクションシーンに使われていたり、動きを学ぶために有名な師範に俳優の方が弟子入りする事も多々あります。

ー海外に興味があったのはプンチャックシラットの影響ですか？
海外に興味があったのは父が添乗員だったこともあり、小さいころから海外の話をたくさん聞かせてもらっていました。なので大学では交換留学なども積極的に行っていました。
しかし、より深く海外の方と交流できるようになったのはシラットのおかげだと思っています。

留学で知り合って仲良くなることももちろんたくさんありますが、シラットを始めてからは世界中の選手と同じスポーツをベースに、価値観を共有できたことはとても見識を広られたのがよかったと感じています。

ーボーダレスハウスに住んでシラットに役立ったことはありますか？
ハウスメイトの理解があることが心の糧になっています。
練習で遅くなった時に声を掛けてくれたり、大会にでるときは全力で応援してくれますし、メダルを取ったときはハウスメイトにすぐにラインで報告しました！

ー今回入居者インタビューを受けてくださった理由はなんですか？
国内でシラットのことがもっと広がってもらいたいと感じたからです。
また僕のシラットの記事をきっかけに国内にいるインドネシア人の方やマレーシアの方が知ってくれて異国の地で懐かしさを感じてくれたり、交流の輪を広げていけたらと感じています。

ハウスメイトになりたいとインドネシアの方が言ってもらえたら嬉しいですね！

ー今後の目標などはありますか？
コロナの影響でどうなるかわからないですが、2026年に名古屋で国際大会が行われる予定なのでそこに向けてがんばっていきたいと思っています。
そして発信などを通して一人でも多くの方が「シラット知ってるよ！」と言ってくれるように活動していきたいと思っています。

【ボーダレスな入居者たち】英語が大の苦手だったのにフィリピンに住んだ僕の話

ボーダレスハウスは、世界中から集まった若者が一つ屋根の下で暮らしながら異文化に触れ合う多国籍シェアハウスです。

英語力の向上はもちろん、最高の仲間との出会いと、新しい価値観に触れる異文化シェアハウスライフを提供しております！

世界中から集まった入居者さんの中には、一筋縄ではいかないようなユーモアに富んだ方もたくさん。

そこで、「ボーダレスな入居者たち」と称して、ボーダレスハウスでの出逢いを通して、変化や成長の経験があった方々をピックアップし、インタビューする新企画を始めます。

シリーズ1人目は、新卒で上京しボーダレスハウスに2年半滞在した清田さん(以下、サティスさん)。

その後外資系企業を退職し、フィリピン移住に至った経緯を伺います。

就職は東京で。上京してから東京を出るまでお世話になったのがボーダレスハウスでした。

ーまず自己紹介をお願いします。
清田と申します。シェアハウスでのあだ名はサティスでした。地元は福岡市で、大学は物理を専攻していました。趣味はスキューバダイビングで、性格はのほほんとしているとよく言われます。
新卒で上京してボーダレスハウスに入居しました。
そのあとなんやかんや2年半ほど住んだんですけど、退職してフィリピンへの渡航をきっかけに退去を決めました。

ーお仕事は何をなさっていたんですか？
外資系の会社で経営コンサルティング業務を担っていました。
漠然と「東京には行きたい」と考えていて、理系でメーカーだと地方就職になりそうだなと考え、いろんな分野を見るうちに運よく外資系コンサルにから内定をいただけました。

ーなぜ新卒でボーダレスハウスに住もうと思ったんですか？
最初の目的は英語学習でした。
外資系だから英語を会社で使いそうだなって思って。
僕は中学、高校と英語が大の苦手だったので、少しでも多く英語が勉強できないかなと思って、「だったら外国人と住んじゃえばいいんだ。」とシェアハウスを探したのがきっかけです。

ー実際に住んでみてどうですか？入居したきっかけの英語は身につきましたか？
最初の一年はあまりつきませんでした。(笑)
会社は思ったより英語を使わない環境だったし、最初に僕が入居した当時の茗荷谷シェアハウス(現池袋東シェアハウス)では外国籍の方がみんな日本語上手で(笑)
特にアメリカ人のショーンなんかはめちゃくちゃ日本語上手でに逆に漢字を教わったりしてました。でも今はここが最初の物件でよかったと思ってます。

そのあと、「シェアハウス慣れてきたし、どうせなら大人数のとこ引っ越そう！」と大森1シェアハウスに移って、そこからは以前より英語が身についたと感じるようになりました。

ー確かに日本語が上手になっていく方もいますよね。なぜ最初の物件が池袋東シェアハウスでよかったなって思ったんですか？
小規模な分、僕が入居したときにはコミュニティが出来上がっていたのですが、すごく自然に受けれいてもらったんです。
内見にいったときに親切で穏やかな感じの方が多くて緊張しなくていいなと思いました。
ショーンが友達をよく連れてきてご飯を作ったりしていたので、賑やかで楽しかったです。また、ある程度日本語で会話ができたことや、英語がうまく伝わらなくても歩み寄ってくれる方が多かったことで、一緒に住む恐怖感ってのはなくなっていったのは良かったなって思ってます。

ー大森1ハウスでの生活はどうでしたか？なぜ英語が身についたなと感じたんですか？
大森1シェアハウスは29名の大型ハウスなので人の入れ替わりも多くて、日々出会いがあって新鮮でした。来日間もないハウスメイトも多く、自然と英語が上達していったように感じました。

ただ、どちらかというと「英語は完璧に話せなくてもなんとかなる！」
と思えるようになったことが大きかったです。

コミュニケーションは言語だけのやりとりじゃないと思った

ー「英語は完璧に話せなくてもなんとかなる！」とはどういうことですか？
言葉が分からなくても、話している時の表情や動作、雰囲気である程度伝えたいことが読み取れる。

そう感じられる瞬間がたくさんあり、英語へのビビりがだんだんとなくなっていきました。「あれ、これ聞き取れなくてもなんとかなるぞ？」みたいな。
自分から話す時も同様で、芸能人の出川さんのような精神でした(笑)。

そのおかげで、自分が海外で暮らすことが具体的にイメージできるようになりました。

宗教や文化や食事は違うけれど、楽しいこと嫌なことは同じ。

ーなるほど。確かに他の入居者さんでも勇気を持てるようになったというお話はよくお聞きします！ほかにボーダレスでの生活で印象に残ったことはありますか？
社会人の方が多く住んでいたので、異業種の方と友達になれたことは視野が広がるきっかけになりました。

あと、海外の方に対しても日本の方に対してもそうなんですけど、「意外とみんな一緒だな」って思うことが多かったです。

もちろん、宗教や文化や食事は違うけれど、楽しいことは楽しいし、嫌なことは嫌だし、コミュニケーションを取る障害って案外少ないんだなってのがわかって、住んでて良かったなと思います。

フィリピンでもシェアハウス。旅しながらWEB制作で稼ごうとと思いました。

ーボーダレスハウスを退去されたのはどうしてですか？
ちょうど会社をやめようと思っていて、やめた後どうしようかなあと考えてたんです。そこで海外に行こうかなって。
2年半務めた会社を退職して、海外に行くためにボーダレスハウスも卒業しました。

ーどうして会社をやめて、海外に行こうと決断しようと思ったんですか？
「会社員向いてないな」って思ったからです。
自分の人事権が自分にないのがすごく嫌だなあと感じて。
ボーダレスハウスでいろんな人に会っていろんな国に興味がわいたし、海外でバックパッカーしようと思ったんです。
でもお金で選択肢を狭めたくはなかったので、旅しながらお金を稼ごうと考えました。

ーどういうことでお金を稼ぐつもりだったんですか？
WEB制作です。フィリピンのセブ島にプログラミングを学べるシェアハウスを見つけて。そこに住んで勉強してから世界を回ろうと決めました。

ープログラミングを学べるシェアハウス面白いですね！住んでみていかがでしたか？
日本人が運営していて、日本人の住むシェアハウスだったので、初めての海外生活でも特に困りませんでした。
でもやっていくうち「あ、WEB制作向いてないな」ってなって。(笑)

そのうち学ぶのはやめちゃいました。ただ、フィリピンにはすごく馴染んで、世界を回るつもりが結局そのまま一年くらい住んでいました。

ーなぜそんなにフィリピンがいいなと思ったんですか？一年間どう過ごしていましたか？
一番の理由は僕にとって生きやすい環境だったこと。
日本人コミュニティがすごく良かったですね。お互いに干渉しないけど、楽しむときは一緒に楽しむ！という感じで。
あと僕の英語でもなんとかなったところ！
みんなすごくフレンドリーで、僕の英語が変でもなんとか聞き取ってくれて、無事に日常生活を送ることができました。

シェアハウスの頃と同じで、大森魂というか(笑)。「意外と何とかなるぞ」精神でコミュニケーションが取れる国でした。
WEB制作の勉強はやめちゃったので、友人の仕事を手伝ったり観光しつつのんびり過ごしていました。

ーフィリピン滞在中にはほかの国には行かなかったんですか？
行きました！タイ、香港、台湾、マレーシア、マカオ、中国、インドネシアなど、直行便があるところを中心に行ってましたが、どこの国も新しい発見があって。
隣の国でも「こんなに国の雰囲気が違うのか」と感じることが面白かったです。

ボーダレスハウスに住んでた時は「あ、みんな同じだなあ」って共感することが多かったんですけど、現地に行ってみたらやっぱり「同じようで違う」。
日本の感覚では考えられないことが広がっていることにとてもわくわくしました。

ー素敵ですね！サティスさんはコロナが収束したらフィリピンに戻る予定ですか？
セブ島には遊びに行きたいなあって思ってます。第二の故郷なんで。(笑)
ただ、やっぱり知らない国で異文化に触れるのが楽しかったんですよ！

なので、いよいよヨーロッパやアフリカ、北南米など、いろんな国にチャレンジしたいですね。
北朝鮮のような国にも行ってみたいです。とにかくいろんな国の違いを見てみたいなって思います。

僕にとっての変化は世界が近くなったこと

ーいいですね！ぜひ世界を旅したサティスさんレポートもお聞きしたいです。
では最後にサティスさんにとってボーダレスハウスに住んだ「変化」とはなんでしたか？
一言でいうと世界が近くなったこと。

「海外に行く」ことが僕の中で当たり前の選択肢になったことですね。
最初に言った通り、僕ほんとに中高のとき英語が大の苦手で。
入居する前は自分が海外に住むなんてイメージはまったくなかった。

けど、ボーダレスハウスで外国の人や海外志向の強い人と生活することで、未知だった海外がだんだんと形作られるようになっていきました。
簡単に海外に行こう！と思えるくらい世界が近くなったこと、それが僕の変化です。

ーそれは本当に素敵だと思います！では最後にこのインタビューを読んでる方に一言お願いします！
まずは内見に行ってみてください。

僕も内見に行って、提案してもらってぐっとシェアハウスの解像度が上がったので！それで迷ったらとりあえず入居！初期費用もあまりかからないですし、契約期間も1ヶ月からと短いです。また、他のハウスに移ることもできるので、実は結構リスクは低いです。住めば都だし、絶対に面白い！僕が保障します！

ー世界が近くなったことで、今度は世界へ一歩踏み込んだその心意気がサティスさんらしいと感じました。素敵なお話ありがとうございました！

What Is A Sharehouse?


A sharehouse is a rental space where people who are living independently, gather to live together. Except for private rooms, all other spaces are shared with fellow tenants. The shared spaces include the lounge area, where tenants can interact with one another, the kitchen, where they can prepare a variety of cuisines and meals, and the bathroom.

Share houses are mainly occupied by similarly aged (young and middle-aged) independently living locals or foreigners who have moved to Japan. Share houses appeal to this group of people due to the diversity, comfort of living, and fun that they offer to its tenants.

In the 1990s, with the increase of the foreigner population in Japan, people were introduced to a new accommodation medium called ‘gaijin houses’ or ‘foreigner houses’. Share houses are the modern version of a gaijin house. Today, these houses have become multicultural environments, providing shared spaces for locals and foreigners to interact with one another.

Popularity Of Share Houses

The increasing focus on shared spaces in television dramas and the collective generational desire to interact with new people and explore new things has led to the popularity of share houses in east Asia.

The Share House Culture

According to a 2015 study, 1.75% of Japan’s population consists of immigrants. Some of these immigrants are foreigners who have moved to the city for work, education, or travel. With the growing population in metro cities, accommodations in Japan are getting harder to find and more costly. Sharehouses offer a fully-furnished space for independently living locals and foreigners, providing both a cost-effective and a multicultural option.

Different companies provide sharehouses with different themes, aiming to bring like-minded people together. Some shares houses are based on similar interests like sports, while there are some share houses that are only for girls or for single mothers, etc.

When living at a share house, one can learn about local culture, taste authentic local food, understand the local lifestyle, and make friends with local residents. 「海外研修」が国内で叶う！ 異文化コミュニケーション力を育成する「入居型」企業研修

日本にいながら異文化交流型の共同生活を通じてコミュニケーションを磨く！
そんなボーダレスハウスの価値を最大限活用する人材育成型の企業研修プログラムがあるということ、皆さんご存じですか？
どのように社内研修として活用されているのか、実際に社員研修として活用してくれている企業さんに訪問し、入居者本人の感想と、研修プログラム担当の方に導入の経緯や社内研修としての成果についてお話を聞いてきました！
社内でダイバーシティ推進や人事制度を作っているという方は、特に必見です！

お話をお聞きしたのは、ピジョン株式会社様で、実際の研修として入居された入社2年目の髙坂さんと、上司にあたる今回のこのプロジェクト企画側の若山さんと佐藤さん。ピジョンといえば哺乳瓶に代表される育児用品メーカーのトップブランド。2018年よりグローバル人材育成の施策の一つとしてボーダレスハウスを起用いただいてます。

Q：このプログラムに至った経緯を教えてください。


若山-　今までの人材育成プログラムとして海外へ一定期間派遣する制度があったんですが、やはり実際に海外にいくとなると、ビザの取得からカリキュラム作成、語学や住居などの現地サポート問題、さらに予算的にも大きく持続性という点でも様々な課題がありました。　そこで、従来のプログラムに代わる新たな制度を企画していたのですが、国内にいてもインターナショナルな環境で住めるところはないのか、という話が上司から挙がったんですよね。探してみると、まさにボーダレスハウスがぴったりだったんです。

グローバル人材育成という観点からも、日本にいながら外国籍の方と関われることや、多国籍に富んでいる点、外国籍の方もコミュニケーションを欲しているという環境はまさにダイバーシティの入り口としては最適なのではないかという話になりました。　そして“Meet the Diversity”と銘打って企画として走らせたんですけど、私も実際に内覧に行かせてもらって、何がって自分が一番テンションが上がっちゃったんですよね(笑)　　ルールのメモには日本語と英語が併記されていたり、リビングの様子だったりを見て、自分自身が住みたいという気持ちが凄く強くなりました。


多国籍の方との関わりが気軽に持てたり、日常生活を通して色んな気付きや驚きが得られる、その中で自分が変わっていけることが何かあるんじゃないかということで、まずは3か月間試してみることにしました。　社内公募した結果3人の希望者が手を挙げてくれて、今回入居するに至ったということです。

Q：髙坂さんはどうしてこのプログラムに応募しようと思われたのですか？




髙坂-　きっかけとしては、私自身が人事部所属だったのも影響として大きいかと思います。
上司から、海外研修に代わるプログラムとして住み込み型のものがあったら若手社員としてどう思うかを聞かれて、面白いかもとさらっと言ったことがきっかけでした。
学生の頃から在日外国人の方に日本語を教える教室でお手伝いなどをしていたのですが、社会人になるとなかなか時間も取れなくて。　企画について伺ったときは会社に居ながら国際交流ができたら面白そうだな、と率直に思いました。　しかも2か月くらいで期間が決まっているという話だったので、ちょっと経験してみる分には凄く丁度良いし、若手社員である今しか出来ない経験ではないかなと思って応募しました。

 

Q：実際入居してみてどうでしたか？

髙坂-　最初は言語とコミュニケーションの部分で多少不安もありましたが、 “交流がしたい”という共通目的をもったハウスメイトたちだったので、毎日リビングにいる時間も多く話が活発にできて全く問題なかったです。
意識して英語でのコミュニケーションをはかろうと努めていましたが、一緒に生活をしていると多少片言だったとしても徐々に相手の言いたいことがわかってきて、コミュニケーションとは言語的側面だけではないのだな、と改めて感じました。
あとは、自分の変化として、自分の強みと弱みを意識できるようになりました。人の相談にのることが上手な人や気配りが上手い人など、一緒に過ごす中でハウスメイトの特長や強みも見えてきて。　自分の苦手な部分については他の人を見習いたいという想いや、自分の得意な面は引き続き伸ばしていこうという意識が日常生活の中で自然と湧いてきました。　これは、このプログラムならではの魅力だと思います。

そうした生活を送るうちに、ハウス滞在前よりも人に深く興味を持つようになった気がします。あまり自分の話を人にしないタイプだったんですが、他者と関わるうえでまずは自分からオープンに接することは大事だなと今では感じています。会社でもプライベートでも、以前よりいろんな人と関わるようになりましたね。

 

実は、プログラムの終了後、ここでの生活を終わらせるのはもったいないなと感じて、正式に入居してしまいました(笑)
友人に話すと、シェアハウスに住んでいること自体をまだまだ驚く人が多くて、プログラムの参加もシェアハウスへの入居も、自分の人生の中ではかなり思い切った行動でした！それほどインパクトの大きな研修、経験になりましたね。

若山-　彼女は変わりましたね。　なんだろう、なんだかたくましくなりましたね。ちょっとしたことなんですが、前だったらこのタイミングで僕に話しかけてきてたっけ？みたいなことが。　要は、彼女としては今そこでコミュニケーションを取らないと機会を逸しちゃうと思ったんでしょうね。　本人は覚えてないでしょうけど、今までになかったたくましいコミュニケーションの取り方を感じた瞬間が何回かあって、やっぱり変わったなぁと感じます。本人が気づいているかどうかは別として、こうして周りの人間としてはその変化を感じることができました。この研修での経験を通して、日本人特有の言わなくてもわかるでしょう、とか阿吽の呼吸なんてものもありますが、やっぱり言わなきゃ伝わらないんだという想いが強くなったのだと考えています。
最近お酒も強くなっちゃってね(笑)　どんどんたくましくなっていくので頼もしい限りです。（笑）

 

 

髙坂-　そうですね。　以前は引っ込んでしまいがちなところがあったんですけど、自分から働きかけるコミュニケーションをしようという気持ちが芽生えました。
それって実はハウスメイトから感化されたことの一つでもあるんです。一人でもやもや考えるんじゃなくてとりあえず言ってみる。　そんな風に考えられるようになったのは、自分もこうなりたいと思える環境が日常的にあったからだと思います。

佐藤-　ほかにも彼女の話をいろいろ聞いていて思ったのが、海外留学したらその土地で色んなことを経験できると思うんですけど、日本の中で色んな国の人と生活をすることによって、日本の文化を英語で説明しなければならないので、自分自身がまず日本のことを知らなければならないですよね。　グローバル人材を目指すうえでは、当然日本文化や日本の歴史をきちんと知っていないとなっていけないと思うので、そういった点でも、留学では気づけないところなのかなと感じます。

髙坂-　はい、私も実際にフランス人とインドネシア人のハウスメイトと一緒に千葉のお寺に行ったことがあったのですが、外国人に囲まれながら終始これは何だと聞かれる機会はやはりあまりないですよね。　日本に住んでいるからこその経験で、海外留学の際は質問する側だったんですけど、説明することってとても難しいんですよね。予備知識が必要だったりするので、もっと説明してあげたいという思いから自分の中ですごく貪欲になりましたね。

 

多様性を体感できる新しい研修の形

Q：たくさんの学びと気づきがあった滞在になりましたね！

髙坂-　外国の方との交流は本当にたくさんの気づきがありました。　でも一方で、日本人の中にももちろん多様性がありますよね。　　日常生活の中に異業種交流があることもとても面白いと感じました。私のような入社数年目の人間から、社会人経験10年くらいの方、色々な業種を経験されている方など、多様な人たちと毎日関われるのはとても大きいし、一人暮らしだったら絶対に出来ない交流だと思います。得意なものがそれぞれあるので、持ち寄って支え合えるとも思います。もっと社内でもそういった交流を活性化できたらより良くなるし、可能性が広がると実感しました。　ボーダレスハウスさんのようなシェアハウスでの滞在でなければ分からないことだったと思います。

若山-　他にこのプログラムで入居した社員は研究開発職なのですが、最近仕事が詰まっていて非常に苦しい状況だったらしいんですけど、スペイン人のハウスメイトの方と仲良く話すことでとても救われているという話をしていました。　そういう意味でも良かったなと感じています。ボーダレスハウスさんは文化を共有しながらお互いを高め合うことがコンセプトとなっているので、社会人として世界と戦っていかなければいけないとか、世界に目を向けていかなければいけないということへの下準備としては、非常にいいきっかけになる。海外の人と生活を共にすることの効果はきっと計り知れないんだろうと思います。

若山-　今回の取り組みは非常に成功だったと言えます。この制度を形骸化させないために、一期生である3名が伝道師となって若手にどんどん広げていくような繋がりが出来ればいいなと考えています。

佐藤-　実際に、社内報を通じて「シェアハウスに入ってみてどうだったか、終わってみて自分の中でどういった変化があったのか」という内容の記事を載せる予定です。社内でも、気にはなっていてもなかなか手を挙げられない社員もいると思うので、そういったところに届くといいなと思っています。

若山-　弊社としては、今後もボーダレスハウスを活用し、多くの社員がダイバーシティを感じるきっかけにしていきたいと考えています。それこそ髙坂のように、もともとは海外へ行くことを考えていなかった人間がそれを考えるきっかけになったように、キャリアの選択肢が多ければ多いほど可能性も広がると思います。それが最終的に会社に還元されれば一番いいし、なおかつ本人自身が異文化に触れ、それらを受容することで人生がより豊かなものになったらいいかなと思っています。

こうした取り組みが評価されて、”Forbes JAPAN WOMEN AWARD2018”という式で企業部門と多様性推進賞で準グランプリを受賞されたようです！
「その中で評価いただいたのが、異文化交流のシェアハウスを会社として取り入れているといのが大きかったと思います！」と佐藤さん。

インタビューを終えてー

現在、ボーダレスハウスに滞在してくれている入居者さんの多くは、既に海外の方との関わりがある方や留学経験のある方など、異文化交流に対して意識や意欲の高い方々が多く滞在してくださっています。
日本にいながらも国際交流の出来る環境を求めてボーダレスハウスを選んでもらえることをとても嬉しく思いますが、同時に、今後はより多くの”これまでに接点のなかった方や機会のなかった方”にもボーダレスハウスを体験してもらうことにも意義があると考えています。
今回インタビューを受けてくださった髙坂さんのように、「ボーダレスハウスがなかったら触れ合う事がなかった」　そんな、「人と人を繋げること」でより多くのグローバル人材を世界中に輩出していきたいと思っています。
